The Black Tooth Grin clan is an orcish clan that was formed as an offshoot of the Blackrock clan, having splintered off before the Horde's passing into Azeroth. After their father was deposed from his position as Warchief by Orgrim Doomhammer, Rend and Maim sought to establish their own power base within the Horde. The clan receives its name from the tradition that every recruit must knock out one of their own teeth to show their loyalty.<ref name="Warcraft II manual">Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual, Clans of the Horde, The Black Tooth Grin Clan</ref>

History

During the Second War, the Black Tooth Grin was responsible for guarding the Dark Portal<ref name="Warcraft II manual" /> and fought on the front lines during the campaign for Khaz Modan.<ref>Tol Barad (WC2 Human)</ref><ref>Dun Algaz (WC2 Human)</ref>

Many of their clan were later captured after the siege of Blackrock Spire and the end of the war and were subsequently placed in the internment camps,<ref>Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal manual, The Aftermath of the Second War</ref> though Rend and Maim evaded the Alliance and later returned to Blackrock Mountain, where Rend declared himself the chieftain of the weakened Blackrock clan and formed the Dark Horde. The identity of the Black Tooth Grin appears to have since become synonymous with that of the Blackrock clan and the Dark Horde, as none of their clan have been sighted since Rend and Maim's takeover of the Blackrock clan.

Trivia

• The Black Tooth Grin have a minor non-canonical appearance in Turtle WoW as NPCs guarding the guild base of the <Blacktooth Grin> Horde RP-PvP guild.<ref>Blacktooth Grunt</ref> However, as guild bases are not canon,<ref>Developer comment from the Turtle WoW Community Discord.</ref> this is not considered as an in-game canon representation of the Black Tooth Grin clan.
