Aldrin, Protector of the Realm
Aldrin, Protector of the Realm is a book that can be bought from Historian Samuel Ravencrest in Ravenshire in Gilneas.
As the first crack of dawn had embraced the new realm named Gilneas, many stories and songs were made to honor the noble Garalon. He that through fire and blood had succeeded to win the independence of the lands he was born in.
Although history mentions Aldrin as general of the rebel army, only whispers and myths were spread about his true character. It is believed that Aldrin was one of the unlucky children abandoned in the Ravenswood, as tribute paid to the myth known as the Wolf-Serpent. Against all odds and fate itself Aldrin managed to survive and was adopted by the Greymane nobility as the son of the cupbearer.
Betrayed by his own nature, Aldrin would not have been able to take over his adoptive father's task. His calling was to battle, a calling that convinced the young Greymane to employ him as his personal bodyguard. From there the two teenagers were to bond through intensive combat and strategy training as rivals. A rivalry that slowly turned into a brothership.
On the day that Garaleon[sic] walked the steps towards the leadership of his lands he named Aldrin his knight, and later had him become the general of the rebel army that was to defeat the Great Empire of Arathor. If Garaleon[sic] was the sword of the realm, Aldrin would be its shield. If Garaleon[sic] was the jury, Aldrin was the executioner.
Their friendship grew over the years, and when Garalon gave birth to the kingdom of Gilneas, Aldrin was named Lord of Ravenshire and rightful leader of Ravenwood Keep. Strategically placed at the border of the lands and surrounded by the Great Sea, Aldrin would make sure that the highest and most respectable tradition would be that every Ravenwood was to be the shield of the realm until its very last man. And that the lawbreakers would have to face the fury and the loyalty of the raven that would rather cut its own wings than disrespect the word of the King.
On the day the last sparks of life had left Garaleon's[sic] body Aldrin became teacher and mentor to the young prince. Not only did he make sure that the heir was ready to take over the legacy of his father but he also employed his own flesh and blood to the young prince and had sworn his entire bloodline to always be in the service of Greymane.
A bond would be forged further throughout history between these two families. A Greymane will always stand atop the throne of Gilneas and a Ravenwood would always be at their side.
