The Silverline Raven
The Silverline Raven is a book that can be bought from Historian Samuel Ravencrest in Ravenshire in Gilneas.
Although the great historians wished to keep this a secret amongst the human kingdoms, it was well known that in the family tree of Ravenwood, blood of Silverlaines was present. What is certain is that the Silverpine Forest was Gilnean lands. The battles that took place on this piece of land forced fate to bond these two dynasties.
Stories say that in one of the grand battles between Silverpine and Lordaeron, the defense of Silverlaine Keep was led by Baron Caliban I, who had protected his land until the last drop of his blood. It was too late when Lord Casten Ravenwood arrived in the middle of the battle. Caliban had already lost his life. Lady Alnira, daughter of the Baron, was protecting his corpse from the Lordaeronian army that wished to spit one last time on the noble who had sacrificed himself for Gilneas.
Casten charged with his horse towards the group of soldiers that surrounded Alnira. While landing right next to her, he had realized that the lady wasn't as powerless as he had thought. Though the chaos of the battle, she had managed to slip her dagger into the heart of the soldier closest to her. Awed by her initiative, Casten ordered his men to attack. The Lordaeronian army stood no chance; they were slaughtered without a trace.
When they returned to Silverlaine Keep, there was no sound of victory, but sheer silence and mourning for the passing of Caliban. Alnira succeeded her father as Baron of the Silverlaine Keep and ruler of Silverpine.
Casten didn't leave the keep. His heart was stolen by the young lady he had met in the midst of battle. He had sent ravens to the King, claiming that he would mentor Alnira into becoming a ruler for a short while. For long, he courted her, long enough for her to fall prey to his love. Yet, she did not agree to marriage.
After a time, Casten returned to Ravenwood Keep, but with a heavy heart. He would've done anything for Alnira to accept his marriage proposal, but he had also understood her motives. While married to him, she'd have to leave Silverlaine Keep and abandon her people.
It wasn't long before the Lordaeron army struck a second time. When Casten heard about the sudden invasion, he rushed to his King to ask for him to be allowed to aid Alnira. Although the King would've had Casten remain in the kingdom and assured him that Alnira would be fine, Casten still pleaded. He had confessed to the King the love he carried for her, and that she had sent him news of being with child days before. The King allowed Casten and his men to leave, and the Lordaeron forces were decimated.
When the battle ended, in a last attempt, Casten asked Alnira to marry him once again. Overcome by emotion, she fell to her knees and started to weep. Both of them had a long discussion about the future. They decided not to get married, and the love they carried for each other was enough. Months later, Alnira gave birth to twins. One of them was to live with her and continue the legacy of Silverlaine, while the other was to live with his father and continue the line of Ravenwood.
They never married someone else. Because of that, both of their children were seen as bastards by many at the time. The truth was only revealed after Alnira's death, which had outlived Casten. The two brothers had a tough road to adjust to at first but with time their relationship grew and was upheld for generations to come.
