Wrynn family

From Turtle WoW Wiki

The Wrynn family (also known as the House of Wrynn)<ref>Llane Wrynn I#Royal Gallery Statue</ref> is the ruling line of the kingdom of Stormwind, also known as the kingdom of Azeroth. They rule the kingdom from Stormwind Keep, and are helped in their duties by the House of Nobles.

Background

The kingdom of Azeroth was originally founded by the descendants of the Arathi bloodline, who had migrated south from the nation of Arathor. Traveling past the rocky mountains of Khaz Modan, their journey finally ended after many long seasons, and they settled in the northern region of the continent they would name Azeroth. In a fertile valley, they founded the kingdom of Stormwind, which quickly became a self-sufficient power in its own right.<ref name="TheSevenKingdoms">The Seven Kingdoms</ref> It had a long and prosperous history, with the king served loyally by the knights of the Brotherhood of the Horse and the clerics of the Holy Order of Northshire Clerics.

During the reign of King Barathen Wrynn, the island of Balor was discovered in the Great Sea to the west of the kingdom by Duke Balor, who settled upon them with like-minded followers in pursuit of greater wealth. It was soon discovered that the island was rich in resources, allowing it to prosper as a self-sufficient autonomous realm that soon became a valuable merchant port. The Grahan family, renowned in the kingdom for their mercantile prestige, was sent by King Barathen to join Duke Balor in order for Stormwind to maintain a measure of influence over the bustling maritime port,<ref>The Founding of Balor</ref> and Balor would later be brought under the sovereignty of Stormwind proper after its forces relieved a siege by the pirates of Plunder Island.<ref>The Siege of Balor</ref>

King Barathen's reign also saw the beginnings of the orcish incursions in Azeroth, though he died in the first year of conflict and was succeeded by his son, King Llane. King Llane Wrynn was assassinated by the half-orc Garona at the end of the First War, succeeded by his son Varian.

The family survived the First War, but were not restored to the throne of the kingdom until after the end of the Second War. The kingdom was renamed Stormwind after the Third War. The House of Wrynn remains in control of Stormwind, although Anduin (who is acting king after his Varian's disappearance) rules through co-regents.
