Lord Aiden Perenolde was the king of the nation and kingdom of Alterac and one of the original founders of the Alliance of Lordaeron.

Perhaps the most notorious human noble of the Second War, Lord Perenolde betrayed the Alliance to the Orcish Horde in exchange for the safety of Alterac, having come to believe that only the surrender of his forces and his sovereignty would save the lives of his subjects.<ref>Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual, Nations of the Alliance, Alterac</ref> To this end, he arranged for a peasant revolt in Tyr’s Hand to cover Horde mining operations there, kidnapped mages from Dalaran and sent pirates to assassinate Sir Uther Lightbringer; which would remove the driving force from the Order of the Silver Hand.<ref name="BetrayalAndDestruction">Betrayal and the Destruction of Alterac (WC2 Human)</ref>

When Lord Perenolde's treachery was discovered by the Kirin Tor, the combined might of the Alliance forces, led by Dalaran mages, turned its wrath upon the small kingdom, ruthlessly crushing it as punishment for his treachery.<ref name="BetrayalAndDestruction" />

The fate of Lord Perenolde after the Second War and the Alterac crisis is unknown. His son Aliden fought over the lands of Alterac against Aiden's nephew Isiden, though by the end of the Third War, Aliden had taken command of the disenfranchised nobility of Alterac and led them as the Syndicate, while Isiden remained a guest of House Greymane in Gilneas until he was taken captive by the Harlow regime. A distant cousin of his, Baron L. Perenolde, has been raised into undeath and has also been seen roaming Gilneas after the opening of the Greymane Wall.
