Cho'gall, Initiate of the Fifth Circle of the Shadow Council, is a two-headed ogre and the first of the Ogre-Magi, and chieftain of the Twilight's Hammer clan.<ref>Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual, Legends of the Land, Cho'gall</ref> He was one of the most feared and respected members of the Horde during the First and Second Wars, having studied magic under Gul'dan himself. Though Cho'gall was extremely powerful, he was also dangerously insane. Less of a tribe and more of a religious cult, the Twilight's Hammer was devoted to bringing about the apocalypse.<ref>Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual, Clans of the Horde, Twilight's Hammer Clan</ref>

After entering into Azeroth alongside Kilrogg Deadeye of the Bleeding Hollow, Cho'gall led the Twilight's Hammer in the failed first siege of Stormwind Keep. However, the catastrophic failure of the attack threatened to tear the Horde apart, as Cho'gall and Kilrogg blamed each other's incompetence for the failure and the orcs quickly polarized into factions that supported either chieftain. Gul'dan quickly stepped in to quell the problem, installing Blackhand of the Blackrock clan as Warchief of the Horde to restore order to the Horde.<ref>Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual, The History of Orcish Ascension, The Mastery of Forces - Medivh and Blackhand</ref>

At some point during the Second War, Cho'gall personally went to inspect the refineries at Grim Batol. Cho'gall and his convoy were traveling through the Badlands of Khaz Modan, and an ambush by Stromgarde warriors was expected. Doomhammer sent additional warriors to protect the ogre mage.<ref>The Badlands (WC2 Orc)</ref> The mission was a success and Cho'gall reported that the Khaz Modan refineries were well maintained and fulfilling their quotas.<ref>The Fall of Stromgarde (WC2 Orc)</ref>

Cho'gall and the Twilight's Hammer followed Gul'dan and the Stormreaver clan when the warlock went to discover the Tomb of Sargeras.
