The Bleeding Hollow clan is one of the most legendary orcish clans. One of the largest clans of the Horde before passing into Azeroth, the Bleeding Hollow achieved legendary status for their participation in the First and Second Wars,<ref name="WC2XBleedingHollow" /> during the latter of which they were tasked with safeguarding the refinement operations in the occupied lands of Khaz Modan.<ref>Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual, Clans of the Horde, Bleeding Hollow Clan</ref> Under the cunning leadership of their chieftain Kilrogg Deadeye, the Bleeding Hollow were one of the few clans to avoid capture by the Alliance after the Horde's defeat and later rejoined the old clans on Draenor. Those who stayed on Azeroth were captured and put in internment camps before being freed by Thrall.

History

At the start of the First War, the Bleeding Hollow clan, led by Kilrogg Deadeye, participated in the first attack on Stormwind Keep, along with the Twilight's Hammer clan, led by Cho'gall. This first attack was an unmitigated disaster for the orcs, and Deadeye and Cho'gall blamed the failure on each other. A rift soon grew that threatened to rip the Horde apart before it had even begun its conquest of Azeroth. Gul'dan quickly stepped in to quell the problem, installing Blackhand as Warchief of the Horde.<ref>Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness manual, The History of Orcish Ascension, The Mastery of Forces - Medivh and Blackhand</ref>

During the Second War, the Bleeding Hollow clan was stationed throughout Khaz Modan, where it controlled the Horde's vital mining and oil refining operations. Kilrogg was able to avoid capture by the Alliance after the defeat of the Horde in the Second War, and with the help of Ner'zhul was able to lead his clan back to the safety of Draenor.<ref name="WC2XBleedingHollow">Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal manual, Clans of Draenor, Bleeding Hollow Clan</ref> Under his uneasy rule they faced an invasion of Draenor made by human expedition forces.

When the world started to collapse, due to the numerous portals opened by Ner'zhul, the Bleeding Hollow along with the Warsong and the Shattered Hand clans attempted to save themselves by breaking through the human fortifications near the Dark Portal and getting back to Azeroth before Draenor collapsed. These clans entered it just in time before Archmage Khadgar closed it completely. Though Grom Hellscream and his Warsong clan managed to evade capture, Deadeye and his Bleeding Hollow clan were rounded up and placed in the internment camps in Lordaeron.<ref>Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Game Manual, Orcish History, Day of the Dragon</ref>

When Thrall liberated the Orcs of the internment camps, the imprisoned Bleeding Hollow members were recruited. Supported by many of the veteran chieftains, Thrall ultimately succeeded in revitalizing the Horde and giving his people a new spiritual identity.<ref name="ThrallsTale" />

The Bleeding Hollow would later garrison the outpost of Grom'Gol Base Camp in Stranglethorn Vale, and led by their chieftain, established the outpost of Stormbreaker Point on the island of Balor during Kilrogg's hunt for the Stormreavers.

Notes

  • Both the Warcraft III Game Manual and the in-game The New Horde book mention that "many of the veteran chieftains" supported Thrall. The only chieftains who fit this description are Kilrogg of the Bleeding Hollow clan and Kargath of the Shattered Hand clan.<ref name="ThrallsTale">Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Game Manual, Orcish History, Thrall's Tale</ref> The other clan chieftains such as Zuluhed the Whacked and Mogor were either in clans that opposed the Horde at the time or were on Draenor.
