The Greymane family (also known as the Greymane dynasty<ref>The First Greymane</ref> or House Greymane)<ref>Gilnean Raven</ref> is the ruling line of the kingdom of Gilneas. They rule the kingdom from Greymane Tower, and are helped in their duties by the nobles of Gilneas.

Background

The Greymane dynasty was first established by Garalon Greymane, a minor noble of the Empire of Arathor who established the kingdom of Gilneas after the city-state won its independence from Arathor following a war that saw the death of King Thoradin III.<ref>The First Greymane</ref> It is closely tied with the Ravenwood family, which has been sworn to the Greymanes ever since Aldrin Ravenwood and Garalon Greymane's friendship.<ref>Aldrin, Protector of the Realm</ref> During the war of Gilnean independence, Garalon made use of dark blood magics in the battle of Stillward, though this element of Garalon's history has been forgotten, his powerless scepter left with House Ravenwood<ref>{{#ifeq:-|-||Template:Sort}}{{#ifeq:-|-||Template:Sort}}[[File:{{#switch:horde|alliance=Alliance|boss=Boss|combat=Combat|hostile=Combat|horde=Horde|aldor=Aldor|scryers=Scryers|kirin tor=Kirin Tor|rare=Rare|elite=Elite|both=Both|kyrian=Kyrian|necrolord=Necrolord|night fae=Night Fae|venthyr=Venthyr|neutral|#default=Neutral}}_{{#switch:small|xlarge=64|large=32|small=15|#default=32}}.png|{{#switch:horde|alliance=Alliance|boss=Boss|combat=Mob|hostile=Mob|horde=Horde|aldor=Aldor|scryers=Scryers|kirin tor=Kirin Tor|rare=Rare|elite=Elite|both=Alliance & Horde|kyrian=Kyrian|necrolord=Necrolord|night fae=Night Fae|venthyr=Venthyr|neutral|#default=Neutral}}|link={{#switch:horde|alliance=Alliance|boss=Mob|combat=Mob|hostile=Combat|horde=Horde|aldor=Aldor|scryers=Scryers|kirin tor=Kirin Tor|rare=Rare mob|elite=Elite mob|kyrian=Kyrian Covenant|necrolord=Necrolord Covenant|night fae=Night Fae Covenant|venthyr=Venthyr Covenant|both|neutral|#default=Faction}}]] [46] The Ravenwood Scepter</ref> and the crystal lost to the ravages of time.<ref>{{#ifeq:-|-||Template:Sort}}{{#ifeq:-|-||Template:Sort}}[[File:{{#switch:horde|alliance=Alliance|boss=Boss|combat=Combat|hostile=Combat|horde=Horde|aldor=Aldor|scryers=Scryers|kirin tor=Kirin Tor|rare=Rare|elite=Elite|both=Both|kyrian=Kyrian|necrolord=Necrolord|night fae=Night Fae|venthyr=Venthyr|neutral|#default=Neutral}}_{{#switch:small|xlarge=64|large=32|small=15|#default=32}}.png|{{#switch:horde|alliance=Alliance|boss=Boss|combat=Mob|hostile=Mob|horde=Horde|aldor=Aldor|scryers=Scryers|kirin tor=Kirin Tor|rare=Rare|elite=Elite|both=Alliance & Horde|kyrian=Kyrian|necrolord=Necrolord|night fae=Night Fae|venthyr=Venthyr|neutral|#default=Neutral}}|link={{#switch:horde|alliance=Alliance|boss=Mob|combat=Mob|hostile=Combat|horde=Horde|aldor=Aldor|scryers=Scryers|kirin tor=Kirin Tor|rare=Rare mob|elite=Elite mob|kyrian=Kyrian Covenant|necrolord=Necrolord Covenant|night fae=Night Fae Covenant|venthyr=Venthyr Covenant|both|neutral|#default=Faction}}]] [47D] The Greymane Stone</ref>

During the reign of King Veran, Lordaeronian forces led by Prince Arterian Lordanol invaded the lands of Silverpine to claim it for Lordaeron. King Veran personally led his army, claiming victory over Lordaeron and taking the prince captive when the harsh Gilnean winters, with the aid of the usage of dark blood magics originating from Garalon's time.<ref>The Silverpine Wars</ref>

Queen Elaena the Good's reign was marked by the arrival of Wildhammer refugees of the War of Three Hammers, who had flown west from Dun Kithas in search of a new land to call home. Sky King Redoran's gifts and generosity charmed the queen, who gifted them a place in Gelnor and to Redoran a seat at her court.<ref>The Dwarves of Gelnor</ref>

King Genn's reign saw the orcish incursions in Azeroth and the establishment of the Alliance of Lordaeron, though Gilneas was a token part of the Alliance and withdrew after the Second War. The Greymane Wall was built on Genn's command, isolating Gilneas from the rest of the world. At some point, Genn met his wife, Mia. They had two children: Liam, his son and heir, and Tess.
